Caritas Tanzania Refugee Service - A Vision

Caritas Tanzania refugee program is a modest venture, which does not seek or wish to compete with the big International agencies.  At the same time we contribute something new lacking elsewhere.  We share as a family the happiness and suffering by being with refugees/asylum seekers apart from always being ready to help refugees in their material and spiritual wants.

Through counseling we build good therapeutic relationship with refugee.  All refugee/asylum seekers get equal access to counselors and through loving them harmonious working environment is created where refugees feel respected and well served.  Our goal is to help refugees to choose own direction among the limited options available.

Through advocacy we use church media available, meetings and seminars to bring issues to the forefront.  Among the issues raised and discussed were the restriction of refugee movement in the camps, local integration being regarded as no option in searching durable solution to refugee problems in Tanzania, indirect exclusion of refugees from employment, creation of safe haven in the countries producing refugees policy, delays in registering and decision making, provision of inadequate food rations, inadequate supply or lack of sanitary material for prolonged periods.  For individuals, we lobby and advocate for their welfare rights, protection and fair and efficient application of admission procedures because this is Caritas Tanzania refugee program prime activity.

Caritas Tanzania and Refugees Day marked our special way of being and doing with refugees.  The whole day was colored by beautiful dances and peace building songs and energy breaking exercises.  More important of all refugees were given opportunity to chat out their problems among themselves, and give feed back on the running of the program through plenary presentations.  It was wonderfully done and every body was very happy.

The guiding program vision is, we in Caritas Tanzania see ourselves as a community of love envisaging a just, peaceful happy and Godly community of refugees in Tanzania.

Our Goal is to improve refugees/asylum seekers livelihood by promoting health, food security, accommodation, peace, and protection of their fundamental and basic human rights activities.
